Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens.
Ten Reasons Why Your Organization Should Consider a Venturing Crew 1. Venturing can keep older youth, ages 14-21 “engaged” in your program longer. 2. Venturing offers older youth challenging activities with boys and girls their own age. 3. Venturing offers additional leadership experience and training that can benefit your program. 4. Venturing advancement requires Venturers to teach what they have learned to other groups. 5. Older youth in your program, especially your leaders, are expected to participate in both programs. 6. A Venturing Crew associated with your program gives younger youth something to anticipate as they get older. It is recognition of their older status. 7. Venturing can helps solve many of your leader’s challenges: · Challenging older youth while at the same time trying to attract and retain younger youth · Competing with older youths’ growing interests; cars, opposite gender; high school · Giving leadership/role model opportunities to all older youth 8. Scouting Benefits · Quarterly activities already planned and staffed by Indianhead Council · Camping property · Leader & Youth Training · Professional/Volunteer Support · $200 Incentive – 10 youth or more by May 1 9. Flexible program – hand/glove concept 10. High Adventure Opportunities
