Prairie Lakes We Want Your Opinion!

Do you have suggestions for future events? Do you have awesome things that are happening in your unit that you would be willing to share? Email suggestionsfor prairielakes@yahoo.com to get your voice heard. We want to make sure that everyone has a voice in Prairie Lakes and that we are offering the best possible program for each of the units!

Take Order Popcorn Distribution

Your unit’s take order needs to be placed by November 2. You will be able to pick up the order on November 16 at Dakota Electric Association in Farmington. The final payment is due on December 14 at the Council Service Center. This payment will look like last year. Do NOT include your unit commission in the single check you will turn in. Any questions, contact Allie Gardiner.

Rechartering Training for Troops & Packs

Rechartering has never been easier since the implementation of online rechartering! On November 13, all Troops are required to attend the recharter training at Crossroads Church in Lakeville. This training will teach you how to recharter for 2008 and what to expect in 2009. All Troops recharter in January; all Packs recharter in March. Packs save the date for January 8, 2008 that is your training date for rechartering.

Looking for all Missing Scouts!

It’s unit inventory time. Your commissioner staff wants to help insure that all youth and adults in your unit are registered and accounted for! On November 13 at roundtable, bring a copy of YOUR (not the council’s) roster to be reviewed. The growth committee will be there to help verify that all boys and adults are registered and accounted for. Please have all youth names, grades, the dates ofbirth, phone numbers, and parents’ names for your unit rosters. This will give you the opportunity to fix any mistakes on your roster before recharter time. Every Troop, Crew, and Pack is required to attend.

Fall Youth Recruitment (FYR)

Congratulations are in order to Ms. Debbie Greiner! Thanks to her Prairie Lakes recruited about 300 Cub Scouts in 2 weeks in September. We will be about 100 Cub Scouts away from reaching quality District! Without Debbie we would have never reached this amazing achievement. She spent 15 nights away from her family to be at almost every FYR night for each of the Packs. Each pack did a phenomenal job getting their dates turned in and their flyer requests in early. Congratulations! Boy Scout Troops, remember we want you to participate in fall youth recruitment too. Contact Jim Ostroot for information on conducting an Open House for your Troop.

Upcoming 2008 District Events

April 19, 2008: Pinewood Derby.

April 14, 2008: TBD

May 8, 2008: TBD

Monthly Scout Swim

Pack and Troop 344 of Northfield Minnesota are hosting a monthly Scout swim. This is a family event for all members of a Scout's family. We will be instructing Brownsea swimming requirements (Tenderfoot through First Class) as well as Swimming and Lifesaving Merit Badges.

Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense training is also conducted at the Family Swim. All Districts in Indianhead and surrounding Councils are invited. This is also a good recruiting tool for Units as you can have the Scouts invite friends to go swimming.

In the future we will be offering canoeing Merit Badge as part of the program. for more details or contact Jay Kuivinen with questions. See Family Swim
