Advancement

Troops are you contacting your Pack to transition their Webelos Scouts? Each Troop should be inviting each of their webelos to troop events. Webelos Scouts will be transitioning in February, get them hooked into Boy Scouting early. Have your den chief contact each of the eligible boys to get them to events. If you have questions in regards to Webelos Transition please contact Jim Nye.

Webelos Transition Summit Achievement Award

The Northern Star Council’s new Summit Achievement Award replaces the former Summit Award of the Viking Council and the Dan Beard Award of Indianhead Council. It is an award that begins in a Webelos’ second year and continues on with him as he transitions into a troop. It is designed to encourage a working relationship between a pack and a troop. Basically, there are four requirements that a scout must accomplish as a Webelos, they include: earn the Arrow of Light plus three additional activity pins; visiting a troop outing or Court of Honor; doing community service with a troop; and joining a troop. As a new boy scout, the boy must be active for six months in his new troop, attend three troop outings and earn the rank of Tenderfoot. This award is a means for the troop and the pack to work together. The patch is meant to be presented to the scout at a Pack Meeting of the boy’s former pack, not a troop meeting. The Scout’s achievements as a Webelos of the pack and a Boy Scout should be highlighted as an inspiration to the younger boys of the pack. The patch is available through the District Executive. Forms for this award are available on the council’s website and in the Roundtable electronic files.

Webolos Assimilation

Second Year Webelos should be attending monthly troup meetings and district events with their partnered troup. Troups should be inviting these Webelos into their troup and give them a taste of what is to come. Scoutmasters can be selecting those boys that would make a good Den Chief and suggest them to the partnered pack Webelos leaders. Having a Den Chief is like having a foot in the door when it comes to transition.

Questions about transition can be directed to Jim Nye at mrnye@charter.net.Assimilation Partnered

Eagle Projects

Some reminders for youth persuing their Eagle Rank:

1) Before the prospective candidate gets approval from the benefactors of the proposed project, the project will need to be discussed with the Eagle Advancement Chair before getting any signatures.  Please watch for the complete project approval process in the near future.

2) In an effort to maximize volunteer time, project approvals and boards of review will be conducted at District Meetings (1st Tuesday of each month) and at Roundtable (2nd Tuesday of each month).  If you have any questions, contact Julie Nitti

Notice to Life Scouts filling out Eagle Scout Rank Application:  Be sure to check and make sure you are using a current application.  Only the 1999 and 2000 revisions will be accepted at the council office.
